Trends to Expect for 2021

Analyzing travel trends has never been so crucial. While many are associating 2021 with a fresh start and better times, the new year is most likely going to reveal similar travel trends to those we are seeing right now. Research conducted by Skyscanner showed that American travelers, above all other travelers worldwide, have the greatest levels of wanderlust and the highest intents to travel by far. This is promising news for the American travel industry, but doesn’t mean that things are simply going to return to normal when the clock strikes midnight on January 1. Check out which trends are expected to continue even into the new year:

·         Domestic travel will continue to reign over international.

·         Business travel will continue to decline.

·         Demand for chartering and higher cabin classes will increase.

·         Shorter booking-to-travel windows and last-minute travels will continue to be the norm.

·         Short-haul flight choices will continue growing in popularity, along with fly + drive travel plans.

·         Demand for sustainable tourism will increase.

Because of the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, travelers will continue to be wary of committing to far out and risky travel plans. However, the pandemic has brought to light the human need for travel. People will find a way to travel, it will just look differently than what the world is used to. Adjusting to this new normal will be critical. (Travel Pulse, 09.22.20)
